Who we Are And why You Should Train Here
East Coast Karate was founded in 1993. The first East Coast Karate Dojo was the Mechanic Street Dojo on Feb 1st 1995 in Hope Valley, RI. By 1999 it was clear that ECK had outgrown the Mechanic Street Dojo so on October 1st 1999, the dojo moved to its current location in the Ocean State Job Lot Plaza in Richmond, RI.

Kyoshi David Ahrens
Owner / Kyoshi 8th Dan Karate / 6th Dan Kobudo
Kyoshi Ahrens began his Karate training in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate in 1985. He is an 8th Degree Black Belt (Hachidan) in Karate and a 6th Degree Black Belt (Rokudan) in Okinawan Kobudo (weaponry).
Sensei Dave also serves as a Captain for the Richmond-Carolina Fire Dept, a Firefighter for the Hope Valley Fire Dept, an EMT for the Hope Valley Ambulance Corp, and instructor for the Rhode Island Fire Academy.
